ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)– When Holly Holm pulled off the biggest UFC upset of the year over Ronda Rousey, she did more than just win a championship; Holm uplifted a community.
That win, coupled with a University of New Mexico upset football win over Boise State, gave Albuquerque one of its best weekends in sports. It also gave the city something positive.
“I still want to try to help make Albuquerque a positive place,” said Holm in an extended interview. “I want other people to see our city as a city of ideas. I want people to want to be good and make our city great.”
Holm has yet to return to Albuquerque. When she does, she would like locals to treat her the same way as they did before she left and became a UFC superstar.
“I live in the best town ever. You meet a lot of people and they are your friends,” said Holm. I don’t want those same people to, like, put me up here where I am different than them or higher than them. That is not it. I still want to be Holly to them.”
