Sunport Police Chief placed on suspension

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Sunport Police Chief Marshall Katz has been placed on suspension and he is looking to appeal it.

According to an official from the International Sunport, Katz was put on leave November 16. He is not being paid at this time and the deputy chief is currently the acting Sunport Chief.

The Director of Aviation released this statement:

“The matter regarding Mr. Katz’ disciplinary action is currently being appealed, therefore, the City of Albuquerque cannot provide comment on this pending matter. However, the City can confirm that Mr. Katz was issued a 90 day suspension for violations of City policy, of which 45 days will be served and 45 held in abeyance for 6 months.”

He violated the following city policies according to officials:

  • conditions of employment
  • duty to the public
  • professional excellence
  • standards of conduct
  • report of abuse
  • bribery, gifts & donations
  • automated systems
  • supervision of employees
