Albuquerque Fire Department.: House fire kills 6 puppies

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) – The Albuquerque Fire Department says four small puppies died in a house fire in southwest Albuquerque.

Fire Capt. Jason Garcia says responding fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the home’s garage Sunday night. They found no people inside the home and immediately put out the fire, restricting the fire damage to the garage.

However, Garcia says the rest of the home had heavy smoke damage and that smoke inhalation killed the puppies.

Garcia says the residents returned home shortly after the firefighters put out the fire.

Cause of the fire is under investigation, and Garcia says no additional information is immediately available.

The fire occurred at a house on the 8600 block of Bay Mare Avenue Southwest. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
