ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)- The Lobos along with Holly Holm did the unthinkable. UNM Football defeated the Mountain West best Boise State Broncos 31-24.
The Lobos really stepped up and played hard in this game against Boise.
“Just the aggressiveness, the resiliency, the toughness, I mean that’s a good football team. You know we probably turned a corner as far as that”, said UNM Head Coach Bob Davie.
The Lobos won on a game saving tackle late in the fourth quarter, on a ridiculous lateral play from Boise that would have potentially tied the game.
The Lobos racked up 413 total yards, but that pales in comparison to the Broncos 638. The Lobos just stayed in this game, even with the penalties and miscues the Lobos pulled it out.
They are now 6-4 overall and Bowl eligible for the first time since 2007, but they are also now 4-2 in conference play. With that record and 2 wins to finish out the season the Lobos could take a Division Title. “I don’t know that anybody thought we would be sitting here after Utah State and Boise, 2-0 and kind of controlling our destiny with 2 games left at home”, said Bob Davie.
The Lobos now take on Colorado State next in Albuquerque on Saturday. That game will start at 3:30 pm.
