ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park is commemorating Veterans Day with a ceremony at 11 a.m. on November 11, 2015, to honor everyone who has served in the U.S. Armed Forces.
Traditionally, the ceremony starts at the 11th hour, on the 11th day of the 11th month, which marks the formal ending of World War I in 1918 and when the Armistice with Germany began.
Visitors are invited to gather at the amphitheater to enjoy music by the Cimarron High School Band and listen to various speakers and Keynote speaker Red Eagle Rael, Veterans Liaison, Picuris Pueblo. A heritage park, the Memorial was established in 1968 by Victor and Jeanne Westphall to honor their son, Lt. David Westphall who was killed in Vietnam in May 1968. It became a State Park in 2005.
