State Supreme Court considering rule changes

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The State Supreme Court agreed to consider changes to rules that have set suspected criminals free.

Bernalillo County courts set rules to try all felony cases within a year of arraignment and present evidence at arraignment only 48 hours after arrest.

A massive case backlog and overcrowding at MDC propelled the rules. District Attorney Kari Brandenburg says it’s forced them to temporarily drop cases.

The court is now considering modifying the rules.
