Man pleads no-contest in 2011 Tucumcari slayings

TUCUMCARI, N.M. (AP) – After four years of court proceedings, a man has pleaded no-contest in the deaths of two Tucumcari men.

The Clovis News Journal reports that Muziwokuthula Madonda entered pleas Tuesday for the March 2011 deaths of 37-year-old Gabriel Baca and 57-year-old Bobby Gonzales. He faces up to 24 years in prison.

As part of the plea, Madonda has waived his rights of extradition to Ohio, where he is charged in two additional homicides.

District Attorney Time Rose says the families of Baca and Gonzales wanted the extradition stipulation added to any plea agreement offered to Madonda so the families of the Ohio victims can have closure.

Madonda is from South Africa. He was informed that his plea deal would impact his legal status and would likely result in his deportatio
