Governor Martinez announces teacher mentorship program

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The governor announced a new program Friday that pairs struggling teachers with a mentor.

She made the announcement at La Merced Elementary School.

Governor Susana Martinez says more than 170 teachers across the state will take part in this mentorship program. It will offer several training sessions throughout the school year.

One educator says it is important teachers share what works and what doesn’t work with their peers.

“When you are able to collaborate with a peer and a colleague, you are able to gleam strategies and talk about those strategies that work well in your classroom. You can’t do that alone,” said Tammy Jaramillo.

Teachers who participate will receive a stipend.
