Albuquerque teacher facing child porn charges bonds out of jail

Weitz in court

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque Public Schools kindergarten teacher who was arrested on child pornography charges is now out of jail.

Thursday a judge lowered 39-year-old Joshua Weitz’ bond because she feels he isn’t a flight risk and doesn’t have a criminal history. Friday, he was out of jail.

The Whittier Elementary teacher’s bond went from $390,000 to $25,000 and he came up with the $2,500 he needed to bond out Friday morning.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies arrested Weitz Wednesday on 26-counts of child pornography. Weitz is suspected of sharing child porn about two months ago with an undercover investigator from the Attorney General’s Office .

Authorities say they found 40-files of child porn on his computer at home.

Friday, concerned parents showed up at the DA’s Office to demand more answers as to why his bond was lowered. One parent even took her children out of the school near Kathryn and San Mateo once she heard the news.

They say their kids liked their teacher, which proves he’s a devious and dangerous man.

As for the kindergarten teacher’s future, the Albuquerque Police Department says there’s no evidence any crime was committed at the school, but APS immediately suspended him with pay. They say he will not return as long as he’s charged with this crime.

APS also said no decision on his future with the district has been made besides the indefinite suspension and that every employee must get due process.
