Care packages to be sent to deployed Navajo men and women

WINDOW ROCK, Ariz. (KRQE) – The Navajo Legislative Branch is planning to send holiday care packages to Navajo men and women deployed overseas.

Speaker Lorenzo Bates announced the care package plans Wednesday.

“We want our Diné military men and women to receive something special from their homeland to let them know that we are appreciative of their service and sacrifice,” said Speaker Bates.

Service members will receive treats such as pinons and Cracker Jacks, hygiene products and a letter from Speaker Bates on behalf of the 23rd Navajo Nation Council.

“Many of our people are serving proudly overseas and will not be with their families during the holidays, so we want them to know that they remain in our thoughts and we pray for their safe return home,” said Speaker Bates.

The Legislative Branch is asking for the public to provide mailing information for the active Navajo service members. Anyone who would like a care package sent to a family member or relative on active duty is asked to contact the Office of Legislative Services at (928) 871-7254 or email by November 9. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
