Albuquerque program provides 1,400 rides monthly to seniors

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A program in Albuquerque is providing rides for seniors to get to places such as doctor appointments, grocery stores and gyms.

The program has eight vans that can seat up to 10 passengers and two wheelchairs.

The Director of the Department of Senior Affairs says the vans are an important investment.

“The population over 50 will be about 50 percent in Albuquerque by 2030. That’s the result of the baby boomers growing up,” said Jorja Armijo-Brasher.

The new vans are a part of Albuquerque’s push to become a more age-friendly city.
