ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Police say a New Mexico inmate who escaped from a correctional facility in Los Lunas is now back in custody. He was arrested by a Valencia County Sheriff’s deputy in the Tome area.
According to officials, 42-year-old Ronald Martinez was found to be missing from the Central New Mexico Correctional Facility Level One Farm around 6:30 Monday morning.
Corrections department officials say Martinez is a low custody inmate who was serving time for forgery and stolen vehicle. He will now be charged with escape from a penitentiary which is a second degree felony. State Police say Martinez is now facing an additional 10 years in prison.
Officials say they will take this time to look at how they can grow from this experience. This summer an imate serving at the state penitentiary in Santa Fe walked away from his work detail outside the prison. After that incident, corrections department officials said they would take a hard look at its inmate work detail policies.
