A storm system currently over California will slide toward New Mexico over the next day. Right now, there is a lot of dry air over the state so we’ll see another sunny day on Tuesday before the impacts of the storm are felt.
As the storm moves in Tuesday night, clouds will increase and showers will break out across western New Mexico. However, given how dry the air is, it’s going to be difficult to get widespread rain going. Look for scattered showers and mountain snow. The snow will continue into Wednesday before tapering off on Thursday. The biggest impact of the system will be to drag in much colder air. The Rio Grande Valley will likely drop below freezing on Friday morning for the first time this fall.
