ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Albuquerque could soon officially recognize Indigenous People’s Day.
The city council is set to consider a resolution Monday night that would acknowledge the holiday. It would be on the same day as Columbus Day.
Last month, Council President Rey Garduno attempted to make the change through a proclamation. When some councilors didn’t agree, he called them “cowards,” but he later apologized.
If approved, Albuquerque would join cities in several other states recognizing Indigenous People’s Day.
