Car owners catch burglar

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE)– Albuquerque police were called out to an auto burglary Saturday night at the Warren Park Apartments near Louisiana and Gibson.

According to a criminal complaint, three people caught William Shimer rummaging around inside their car.

The individuals were able to detain Shimer until police arrived.

Police say Shimer told the victims he was just looking for “stuff” and asked them not to call the cops.

When police searched Shimer they found a set of keys with shaved down edges which are commonly used in auto burglaries.

Shimer was also arrested on September 28th for a separate auto burglary but that case has been dismissed.

Shimer was in court Sunday charged with burglary and possession of burglary tools
