CHAMA, N.M. (KRQE) – An arsonist has thrown a family into financial turmoil and now they’re pleading for help.
The family says they lost more than 8,000 bales of hay when someone set their barn on fire. That represents more than a year’s worth of work and earnings.
“It pretty much cripples us,” said Joseph Pina, whose father owns the barn. “That was all of the income that we were going to have for next year. We have to buy fertilizer and pay for all the equipment we have to use to haul the hay. So all the money we would use for next year is gone.”
The family also lost two flatbed trailers and their truck.
The arsonist has not been caught.
They are offering a $4,000 reward for anyone who has information that leads to an arrest.
