ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man charged with child abuse will not spend time behind bars.

Last year, Elden Begay’s 9-year-old daughter told school staffers that her father used a cattle prod on her when she failed to get up for class. There were no visible marks on her or her siblings.

Begay pleaded no contest.

In court on Tuesday, his attorney said he only showed the cattle prod to his kids to get them to behave. The judge sentenced him to 2 years’ probation.
