ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) – Roswell police say a 78-year-old man was arrested in his wife’s death after he went to a fire station to report that she had been killed.

Police say Ignacio Aguirre went to the fire station late Monday night. An officer then took him on to the police department to be interviewed by a detective while other investigators went to the couple’s home.

They found 70-year-old Delores Aguirre on the living room floor, dead from multiple stab wounds.

Police say the husband was arrested and jailed early Tuesday on suspicion of murder.

A police spokesman said he didn’t know whether Aguirre yet has an attorney who could comment on allegations against Aguirre.
