ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New video shows the emotional scene police walked into four months ago when 17-year-old Jaydon Chavez-Silver was killed in a drive-by shooting.
The video shows what happened after a house party in northeast Albuquerque turned into a murder scene.
“He was sitting right there. They shot through the window right here,” a witness told APD.
A girl was trying to give Jaydon CPR as the first officer walked into the home near Lomas and Tramway NE in June, minutes after a shooting.
“I’ll make sure this house is secure for everybody,” an officer told everyone at the home.
The officer radioed in about where shots were fired, and then tried to get more information as about a dozen shocked teens all explained what happened at the same time.
“Was there a problem earlier?” the officer asked.
Everyone shouted at once in response.
“Somebody drove by and shot up the house,” one man said.
Witnesses said Jaydon was sitting on the kitchen counter when he got hit.
“What happened?” an officer asked.
“We were just hanging out right here, and we just hear pop pop pop pop,” a witness said. “We all jumped to the ground… Jaydon told me he was shot.”
A friend was still giving Jaydon CPR while an officer made sure the shooter was gone.
“Alright, I just gotta make sure that we don’t… There’s no one else outside,” an officer said.
About four minutes after video shows the first officer on scene, paramedics arrive.
“When I got here, I couldn’t find a pulse,” an officer is heard saying on lapel video.
Police started sitting everyone down to take statements and sort through what just happened.
“Be patient with us because our main goal is to find out what happened with him and get him taken care of, and I know that’s what you guys want too,” an officer told everyone at the scene.
Investigators said Jaydon, who was about to start his senior year at Manzano High School, died that night after a bullet hit him in his upper right chest.
Police say Jaydon was not the intended target.
Three men are charged with Jaydon’s death, accused of driving by and opening fire at the home after a dispute with someone who lived there.
