Stolen ‘Jesus Balloon’ items returned

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – These thieves were no saints. Albuquerque police said someone stole from a balloon pilot who flies a very special balloon.

Officers said they recently returned propane tanks and stolen hot air balloon burners belonging to the “Jesus Balloon.”

Pastor and Pilot Jay Mason said thieves stole the equipment last month that gets the 800-pound balloon off the ground.

“The gondola itself and the instruments and the tanks, all that disappeared,” said Mason.

The equipment sat in a trailer in the parking lot of Our Savior Lutheran Church.

“They just drove up in a Ford Explorer, dropped the trailer on its back and took it away,” said Mason.

Officers found the propane tanks and two stolen burners in a different stolen trailer last month. They used social media to find its owner, leading them to Mason.

But the pilot said he’s still missing more items, including the trailer that held all the equipment.

“Well the trailer is important because you have to figure out how to get this stuff somewhere,” said Mason.

Mason is still hoping to find the rest of his stolen equipment including the trailer, two blowup balloons, T-shirts and balloon pins.
