ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The St. Pius Sartans are undefeated thus far in the season (6-0). A big reason behind the team’s success is junior captain and quarterback Drew Ortiz. He already has 31 total touchdowns, and is known for breaking out a huge passing touchdown or rushing touchdown at any moment.

“Every single snap, I take it as I am going to score. I am not going for that first down, I am going for the touchdown. And once you finally break it, it’s the best feeling in the world, knowing that everyone is behind you, going to score,” said Ortiz.

The team has shown a lot of improvement in just the past few years. In 2013 the Sartans were 3-7 overall. Last year they were 8-4 and this year they are undefeated.

Ortiz says the team is hungry and he is more acclimated to being quarterback.

“I don’t want to say we are one of the top dogs because that sounds cocky, but I want to say that I feel that we can compete with some of the other teams out there. We are just hungry for a blue trophy,” said Ortiz.

The Sartans take on Rio Grande next on Saturday at Nusenda Community Stadium. Kick off is at 11 a.m.
