Chris’ Friday Afternoon Forecast

The canyon winds continue out of the east this afternoon thanks to a cold front that is moving through eastern New Mexico.  The winds will be the strongest out of the east near the canyon.   Balloon Fiesta Park should have minimal impacts from the wind for tonight’s Glowdeo.  The best chance for rain today will be in southern New Mexico.   That is where we still have some moisture left to trigger hit and miss showers this afternoon.   The storm system responsible for the clouds and showers this week is now moving to the south and west back into the Eastern Pacific.  In its place an area of high pressure will build over the region.  That means drier and sunny skies for the weekend along with lighter winds.   So the final two days of Balloon Fiesta are looking really good.   The mornings will remain cool this weekend, but by the afternoon temperatures will be topping out above average and that will continue into early next week.
