ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Albuquerque Police Department released the 911 calls from the night of a deadly wrong way crash on I-25 near Comanche.
One 911 caller can be heard saying, “I’m heading south on I-25. I just passed Cesar Chavez on the freeway and there’s a car on the wrong side of the road flying.”
Police say 22-year-old Angel Romero may have been going 100 mph northbound on southbound I-25 last month. He then slammed head on into Nicalette Baca’s car.
They both died in the crash.
Baca’s friends say she was heading home after hanging out with friends.
One 911 caller described the crash as an explosion.
“Yeah, half of it is on the east and half is in the middle. It’s bad, it’s bad,” said the caller.
Romero’s driving record shows five different speeding tickets in 2014 alone.
Police are waiting on blood test results to determine if Romero was drunk.
