ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Catcher for the Boston Red Sox, Blake Swihart is now back in town for the offseason. Blake definitely had his ups and downs in his first stint in the big leagues, but he finished hitting .274 with 5 Hrs. on the year. He really came on late in the season as he hit 2 dingers against the Yankees.
“Yeah you know that was special probably one of the highlights of the year. I don’t try to look to hit homeruns. Just put good wood on the ball, and just try and hit the ball hard to help the team out. I got a good outcome with that,” said Blake Swihart.
He was also a special guest at this year’s Rio Rancho High School baseball tournament. It hosted kids from Pre-K all the way to 8th grade, and it was a big turnout. More than 140 kids showed up for the camp, and also meet with Blake to take pictures, get autographs, and learn from a real major leaguer.
“Yeah you know it’s nice to be back I have been enjoying my offseason. Obviously wasn’t the season that we typically want up there in Boston, but I think it is something to build on for next year. You know being home it’s nice to give back. I put a big smile on these kid’s faces, but they put an even bigger smile on my face,” said Swihart.
Blake is spending his off season here in Rio Rancho and Albuquerque. He has a few days off but then it is right back at it, getting prepared for spring training.
