ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – As gamers get their first chance to beat the levels in a new mobile game released on Thursday by an Albuquerque couple, that couple is taking their relationship to a new level after a unique engagement proposal.
“She said, ‘Yes,’” Ryan Leonski said of his fiancée, Shandiin Woodward.
Leonski might make games with Woodward, but he is not playing games when it comes to her.
Seconds after their new mobile game, Sky Pets, launched at midnight, he popped the question.
“I couldn’t wait any longer so, like 10 seconds after we clicked release, I very awkwardly said, ‘I have a level for you to check out,’” Leonski said.
Dressed up in a tuxedo for the occasion, Rusty the cat had important messages as Woodward made it through the level: Ryan loves you, Ryan wants to be with you forever and finally, Ryan has something special to ask you.
“It was just like a really cute, sweet way to ask and, I don’t know, it felt really emotional,” Woodward said.
After spending about half of their six-year relationship perfecting their mobile game made up of pets flying through the sky, now the couple is on cloud nine, celebrating their engagement and the game on Thursday with family and friends.
“I was trying it, and it was pretty fun,” said 4-year-old Eon Baca.
He admits though, it can be a little difficult.
“It has bumpy stuff and bad guys that freeze me,” Baca said.
To make it to the next level, Leonski and Woodward have shown, it just takes a little patience, persistence and a lot of creativity.
Leonski said he cannot imagine proposing to Woodward any other way than with their own special edition of Sky Pets.
“Maybe a laser on the moon but that’s a little expensive,” Leonski joked.
Sky Pets became available for iPhone and Android users for $1.99 on Thursday.
The couple said they will find out on Friday how many people have downloaded it so far.
