SANTA CLARA, N.M. (KRQE) – Ground penetrating radar is helping solve a mystery at a New Mexico cemetery.

Some burial plots at the Santa Clara Cemetery were marked with only rocks or wooden crosses, but no headstones. As time has passed, those items have withered away, making it difficult for people to find their relatives.

According to the Silver City Sun-News, a local surveying company brought in the radar and they were able to identify nearly 1,400 burial sites.

Metal crosses will now be placed on those graves to better identify them.
