ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Police responded to a downed balloon at 4th Street and Aspen after the balloon collided with a truck Tuesday morning. The intersection was closed for police to investigate and remove the balloon. Officers say there were no reported injuries.
Andy Tafoya, who witnessed the crash, tells News 13 the pilot appeared to be avoiding power lines.
“I thought he was going to hit that one power line there, that’s what he’s going to hit and that’s what kind of got me scared because I was waiting for it to hit that line,” Tafoya said. “But whoever’s driving a balloon did a really good job landing it.”
The pilot tells News 13 a wind gust caught his balloon as he was landing.
In a separate in balloon related incident, police say a balloon that hit a power line at the intersection of 4th and Candelaria knocked out power to 2,600 customers. No injuries have been reported.
A balloon also appeared to have landed on the roof or in the parking lot of a Hooters restaurant near Coors and Alameda.
KRQE will provide updates as they become available.
