Homeless man is arrested in bomb hoax at a Las Cruces store

LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) – Authorities say a homeless man is in custody in connection with a bomb hoax at a Las Cruces convenience store.

Las Cruces police say 51-year-old Kevin M. Green is being held on suspicion of one count of intentionally delivering a facsimile or hoax bomb.

Police were dispatched to the report of a possible explosive device at the convenience store about 2 p.m. Monday.

Investigators say Green allegedly went into the store and indicated to an employee that it was an explosive device. The employee called 911.

The store was evacuated and closed for more than an hour.

The Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Office Bomb Squad was called to the scene and discovered that the device was a clear vial containing some type of liquid and wasn’t explosive.
