Largest UNM crowd since 2009 watches Rio Grande Rivalry

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – While the Duke City sky was filled with colorful sights Saturday morning, the state’s two big rivals battled it out on the ground on the gridiron Saturday evening.

It was the Lobos who topped the Aggies in comeback fashion 38 to 29, taking their fourth straight in the Rio Grande Rivalry. Official attendance was 30,900 which is the highest attendance in a home UNM game since the 2009 UNM-NMSU game.

Midway through the contest, fans were impressed with how competitive things were between the winless Aggies and Lobos.

“You can be a winless team but if you got the heart, especially in a rivalry game, they’re going to show up,” said Aggie fan, Anthony Ramos.

“I think our team always comes and shows their best, especially with this rivalry,” said Lobo fan, A.J. Reyes.

“It’s great that everyone can come out and support their team in one state like this,” said Lobo fan,  Javier Gutierrez.

The Lobos take on Nevada next week while the Aggies have a tough test on the road against Ole Miss.
