Complaint: Driver who killed woman was high

Passed out behind the wheel

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The man accused of hitting and killing a 65 year old woman with his car in southeast Albuquerque was high on a narcotic according to a criminal complaint.

Police say Jesse Lopez was driving east on Gibson Boulevard. Witnesses told officers the car he was in kept stopping at intersections and Lopez would be passed out behind the wheel. When he was woken up, he would keep driving. Investigators say Lopez plowed into a pedestrian and was found passed out again.

While a breath test determined Lopez wasn’t drunk, other tests determined he was high on a “narcotic analgesic” and Lopez was arrested for vehicular homicide.

In court, the judge cut Lopez’s bond in half due to a lack of a significant criminal history. He remains behind bars as of Saturday afternoon. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
