Bernalillo County approves contract for new manager

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) – Bernalillo County commissioners approved a three-year contract Tuesday for the next county manager.

Julie Morgas Baca was chosen from among 46 applicants for the job. She’ll earn $175,000 a year.

She starts the job Saturday, succeeding Tom Zdunek, who is retiring Friday.

As county manager, Baca will oversee a $500 million annual budget and 2,500 employees. She reports to the County Commission.

Baca previously has served as a deputy county manager, and as president and chief executive of the National Hispanic Cultural Center Foundation.
