Artist turns storm damage into art

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A new art piece was unveiled on Tuesday as a result of damage from a storm in 2013.

Artist Mark Chavez was hired by the city to work on a cottonwood tree that went down during the microburst.

Chavez used a chainsaw to carve birds, koi fish and lily pads into it. Chavez says the piece took him three months to complete.
