Man’s dream for record setting flight on hold for now

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man’s dream to set a world record in his small plane is on hold at least for now.

Pilot Jon Sharp was set to take flight from the Moriarty Airport Wednesday morning and his plane even made it out to the runway but mechanical problems kept him grounded.

Sharp wants to beat a speed record for planes that weigh less than 2,300 pounds. The existing record is 356 miles per hour.

The flight could happen Thursday and Sharp is confident that by the end of the week his name will be next to a few new records. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
