I25 Crash

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Two people were killed after a wrong way driver slammed into a woman’s car on I-25.

The accident happened in the southbound lanes of I-25 at Comanche. Albuquerque Police say that the crash was caused by a male driver traveling northbound in the southbound lanes, colliding head-on with a female driver. Both drivers died at the scene. Police have not determined if alcohol was a factor.

An ambulance driver told police they saw the male driver going about 100 miles an hour shortly before the wreck.

Police are not releasing the names of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.

I-25 was closed for a few hours while the crash was investigated. It reopened at about 8:30 a.m. Sunday morning, but police have yet to release more details.
