SANTA FE (KRQE) – Lawyers for the Public Education Department are set to defend the state’s controversial teacher evaluation system on Monday.

Attorneys for PED and the teacher’s union are set to go before a Santa Fe County Judge.

The union is trying to stop the use of student tests as part of teacher evaluations. They say the tests are unfair and forcing many veteran educators to retire.

The PED says the suit is a “disappointing distraction.”
