Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office offers free child ID cards

Santa Fe Police

SANTA FE (KRQE) – Santa Fe County Sheriff’s deputies will be at the Santa Fe Plaza during fiesta weekend launching a free public safely initiative to fingerprint and create instant identification cards for parents and guardians.

According to Sheriff Robert A. Garcia, child ID cards are an important investment.

“This child ID program is one of the most important tools for law enforcement when searching for a missing child. The initiative creates an up-to-date, good quality photo along with descriptive information in the form of an identification card for parents or guardians of children.

Reasons to fingerprint children:

  • 450,000 children run away each year in the US
  • 300,000 children are abducted each year by family members
  • More than 58,000 children are abducted by non-family members each year

The deputies will be at the Santa Fe Plaza on September 11 and 12 from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to offer the child ID cards.
