Bachelor contestant says New Mexico is a ‘copy cat’ name

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A contestant on ABC’s Bachelor in Paradise arrives in Mexico and says,“So I have to ask you, why is this Mexico and that’s New Mexico?”

The man replies, “Why New Mexico in the states? Because they want to copy.”

The contestant responds, “Ohh, copy caters. I can’t believe that. Wow.”

At one point she refers to Mexico as “old Mexico.” After, she reunites with TV host Chris Harrison and gives him a sombrero, calling it a “sabrero.”

This isn’t the first time The Bachelor has brought negative attention to New Mexico.

Back in February, the bachelor and his date visited Santa Fe, but they misspelled the city with an “E” instead of an “A”.

Also, One of the contestants wearing a sombrero was shaking maracas singing a “Mexican song”. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
