Police identify man in Hobbs fatal shooting

HOBBS, N.M. (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police are investigating a deadly police shooting in Hobbs.

It happened Monday at about 12:30 a.m.

Police arrived at an Allsup’s on the 1100 block of E.Sanger after they were called in reference to a domestic battery incident. Deputies say when they arrived Tanya Verrett, 42, said her husband, 42-year-old William Verrett  had “battered her” and that he had a shotgun.

Approximately five officers and a supervisor then responded to 1209 Park Street. They say that is when they made contact with William Verrett. Police say they fired and hit him several times. William Verrett died from his injuries on scene.

Authorities are still investigating.
