BERNALILLO, N.M. (KRQE) – The man who died while in the custody of Bernalillo Police has been identified. Officials say he is 45-year-old Ben A. CdeBaca.

His death comes after a wild string of events that began across the street in the McDonald’s parking lot.

Police say it all began with the man arguing with the female driver of the blue sedan while at the McDonald’s drive-thru. Police believe he tried to take control of the car from the driver, leading to the crash with another car.

Witnesses say the man then jumped out of the car and into a Walmart across the street. Inside that Walmart, Bernalillo Police say the man knocked over TVs and fought with customers and employees. When police arrived, they struggled to handcuff him. After the man was handcuffed, police say he suddenly died. Medical crews on scene tried to revive him.

An autopsy has been done but the results have not been made available yet.
