Thieves target Albuquerque coffee shop

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A coffee shop near Old Town is dealing with thousands of dollars in damages.

The owner of Cheese and Coffee downtown tells KRQE News 13 someone broke into her shop overnight by breaking one of the glass doors, crawling to a back room and making off with a safe.

She estimates the costs to be up to $3,000 worth of damage.

“You know it’s really unfortunate being a small business owner. For us to recoup that money, it’ll take us anywhere from one to two weeks,” said Jan Barringer.

Officials believe whoever did it likely scouted the place, because they were able to avoid tripping the restaurant’s motion detectors. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
