Hearing scheduled to suspend New Mexico’s teacher evaluation system

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A judge has scheduled a hearing for an order to suspend the state’s system for teacher evaluations.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican, the public education department and the American federation of teachers will present their arguments September 16 and 21.

Some teachers say the system relies heavily on test scores and their negative scores are preventing them from getting pay raises.

The state argues that there is no evidence teachers have been negatively affected.
