ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Some $70,000 in assets from former Rio Arriba County Sheriff Tommy Rodella will not be seized.

Prosecutors were trying to use them to cover more than $200,000 in court fines. Rodella’s lawyer argued the money shouldn’t be taken until a federal court hears his appeal for a new trial.

The case is scheduled to be heard September 29th.

Rodella was convicted of civil rights violations during an off duty traffic stop. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
