ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – New Mexico State Police say they have found the body of a missing hiker in the  Sandia Mountains.

At about 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday, State police say they found 40-year-old Bryan Conkling. They say canine units found the body a quarter mile off the trail.

Search and rescue teams were searching for Conkling. Conkling failed to return from a weekend trip. Police were notified about Conkling at about 8:30 Sunday night.

Conkling’s girlfriend is the one who reported him missing. Friends say he is a paramedic for CareFlight in Albuquerque. Friends say Conkling was climbing near what’s known as “the thumb.”

Police say the Office of the Medical Investigator will conduct an autopsy.
