Local health expert offers tips to avoid foot injuries

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Many people enjoy fun footwear in the summer, but they might be unaware that they could be putting themselves at risk of both foot injuries and foot infection. Local health experts report an increase in foot injuries and infections this time of year. ABQ Health Partners cautions people to be aware of the wide variety of foot health issues they can experience during the summer. This includes infections from flip flops and burns from walking barefoot on asphalt. Arch pain is especially prevalent with those who are not wearing supportive shoes during the warm months. Along with flip flops, five finger running shoes can be a culprit of different injuries.

This summer, just be sure to shop for shoes that still provide proper support. Stretch your feet too, they’ll thank you for it.
