Volcano erupts on Sandia in opener

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Volcano Vista Hawks have made it clear that they will be not be an easy out in high school football. The Hawks ripped perennial power, Sandia, 37 to 3 in their Class 6A opener.

Hawks quarterback Josh Williams and receiver David Cormier hooked up for a couple of touchdown passes in the lopsided victory.

Williams was 11 of 19 with 256 passing yards.

Cormier caught five balls for 123 yards and pair of touchdowns.

The Hawks defense was also dominate, keeping the Matadors out of the end zone after multiple trips to the red zone. The Hawks even ended the game on an interception when Alan Rodriguez returned a pick 91 yards for a touchdown.

The 1-0 Hawks will play the Manzano Monarchs September 3.
