Missing cat’s owner haunted by bizarre messages

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A New Mexico woman has been on the prowl to track down her missing cat. But, someone may have found her feline, and could be haunting her with it.

“We go by the shelters all the time and we look online all the time,” the cat’s owner told KRQE News 13. She doesn’t want to be identified for fear that someone is taunting her.

After weeks of searching for her missing cat ‘Pircy,’ the woman is now worried with the thought of who may have her feline friend.

Last month, she said Pircy was in a crate during a drive to Los Lunas. A quick stop at an Albuquerque gas station was the last time she saw Pircy.

“I double, triple, quadruple check everything before we left, so I know that it was good and safe,” the woman recalled, referring to the cat’s crate.

Worried someone stole her cat, she posted a plea for Pircy’s return on Craigslist.

What makes this case strange is a phone call that came after posting the ad on Craigslist and then a voicemail that left more questions than answers.

“Hi, I just wanted to let you know that we found your lost cat,” a woman’s voice is heard on a phone message. The voice message is from a blocked caller.

“He’s really nice and we kinda want to keep him. Don’t worry, he’ll be OK, we’ll take care of him,” the woman continues. “We’ll give him milk. Thank you, bye. Thanks for your cat.”

The cat’s owner said she doesn’t know whether to believe the caller.

Then, Pircy’s owner received text messages from someone showing pictures of what she believes to be her cat.

“I understand that she can be very lovable and get into your heart and things like that, but she’s a member of our family,” the woman said, referring to Pircy.

Animal Welfare is investigating.

“Unfortunately with the little information we had to go off of, we just hit a dead end,” said Lieutenant Christopher Romero, of the City of Albuquerque’s Animal Welfare Department.

As far as Pircy being stolen, Animal Welfare officers said it’s a possibility. “It doesn’t happen a lot, but it does happen,” said Romero.

The owners just want Pircy back. “I just hope that people can understand that if she was found loose, it was not out of neglect,” the woman said.

She said Pircy has kidney failure and needs careful medical attention.

The person who texted the woman pictures of the cat told her to meet them at a Petsmart, but the person never showed. The woman is worried the person behind the messages is pranking her.
