ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – A man in his 60’s is dead, his wife fighting to survive after they were both attacked in their northeast Albuquerque home early Monday morning. Officers call it one of the most gruesome scene’s they’ve ever seen and investigators say the suspect is the son of the victims.

It happened in a neighborhood near Louisiana and Lomas. Police say they got a call around 3 Monday morning from a woman screaming for help.

When officers arrived they spotted a man trying to flee out the backdoor. Police have identified that man as 24-year-old James Finch.

They say Finch forced his way into the home of his parents and attacked them.

Inside, authorities found the man, 60-year-old David Finch, already dead and the woman, 66-year-old Kathy Finch, badly hurt. They say it appears they were both beaten and stabbed repeatedly.

Officers say Finch has a violent history with his parents and they had an active restraining order against him. He was just released from jail on Thursday.

Finch is in the hospital with wounds from the attack; it is unknown at this time if the wounds were self-inflicted.

Police say he will be booked on an open count of murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and aggravated burglary.
