Judge dismisses DWI case for Albuquerque woman

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The mother accused of disfiguring her son during a DWI crash is off the hook. The case against Valerie Rino has been dismissed. In 2012, witnesses say they saw her speeding on I-40 through the East Mountains.

She then allegedly hit a divider and rolled her vehicle. Her 8-year-old son lost some fingers. There were two other kids were in the car.

While police said at the time Rino admitted to drinking a beer, a mixed drink, and taking Xanax before getting behind the wheel. Her attorney claims tests show her system was clean.

The judge dismissed the case before it went to the jury, saying the state failed to prove its case.
