Albuquerque firefighters extinguish strip mall blaze

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – Six hours. That’s how long it took Albuquerque firefighters to put out a massive blaze at a strip mall Monday morning.

Four businesses were damaged by the fire, one of those was the popular restaurant Sushi Xuan, where the fire began.

The fire broke out around 3:00 Monday morning at the strip mall on the east side of Coors. Initially firefighters went out for a call about smoke coming from the building but they found huge flames when they arrived.

Upwards of 20 Albuquerque Fire Department units were on scene to put it out including ladder trucks fighting the fire from above.

No one was inside the strip mall at the time of the fire but two firefighters suffered minor injuries.

Right now, no word on what caused the fire, the cause is still under investigation. Other businesses in the strip mall received water and smoke damage.

The total cost of that damage is unknown. provides commenting to allow for constructive discussion on the stories we cover.
