LOS ANGELES (KRQE) – New Mexico’s own Holly Holm will get a title shot against the most feared fighter in the UFC.
UFC bantamweight champion, Ronda Rousey, announced Friday morning that Holm will be her next opponent.
Holm is selected for the showdown against Rousey at a time when Rousey’s popularity has skyrocketed.
No one has been able to give the UFC champion much of a fight; Rousey has wrecked the bantamweight division.
Many fighters can’t last a minute against Rousey.
Holm’s record is (9-0) in her MMA fighting career with two victories by decision in the UFC.
Facing Ronda Rousey has been a topic since Holm joined the UFC. She talked about it earlier in the year.
“On flip side, everybody is beatable. Everyone is human and everyone is beatable,” said Holm.
The Holm fight against Rousey is one of many title shots for fighters from the Jackson and Winklejohn academy, making it a huge spotlight opportunity for New Mexico.
“This is our pro sport. We excel in fighting and mixed martial arts and now with Holly Holm that’s five belts. We have a realistic chance of bringing all of the belts here to New Mexico,” said Diego Sanchez, UFC fighter.
Holm and Rousey will battle at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada on January 2. The fight will be a pay per view event.
Holly Holm is an underdog in the fight so Vegas odds makers say if you put a $100 on Holm, and she wins, you would win $825.
If you made the same bet on Rousey and she wins, you would get $8.
